Carstensz Pyramid Bench Mark Medallion

Nestled in the western highlands of Papua, Indonesia, Carstensz Pyramid stands tall at 16,023 feet (4884 meters), making it the highest peak in Oceania. Known locally as Puncak Jaya, this majestic peak was first sighted in 1623 by Dutch seafarer Jan Carstenszoon. It remained shrouded in mystery until 1962 when Heinrich Harrer and his team made the first successful ascent, traversing dense jungles and scaling icy cliffs.
